What seems missing for so many people is empathy. You’ve highlighted this so well. Anyone who hasn’t traveled in a less-privileged part of the nation or the world is missing out. Thank you for your clear, concise explanation of a complex issue. I hope it’s okay, but I often create a “cliff notes” version from the articles you write (since most people have the attention span of a gnat) and post it on social media as a public service announcement. When quoting you, I always give you credit, encouraging people to follow you.
What I remember about the WHO is that the head of the WHO in the early days of COVID made a statement (I think in February 2020) something along the lines of: the leaders of China are doing a great job with COVID response. When in fact they were not; pretty much the opposite by not sharing info and generally not owning up to their responsibilities since theirs was the country that damned disease started. One questionable brown-nosing (or maybe just misinformed) statement from its head doesn’t cancel out the good the WHO does around the world, but it certainly does beg the question of the WHO’s actual priorities, especially when it comes to speaking truth to power. When the poop hits the fan, I don’t trust them to put the public good ahead of politics.

Absolutely, please share the message widely! We need all the support and awareness.
Apparently, they haven't read Edgar Allen Poe's short story "The Masque of the Red Death." Thank you for writing your columns, Doctor.
