I've always had problems with CR. These range from non-objective evaluations.... Using "peanut butter experts" (!?) to evaluate the taste of the peanut butter... to incorrect criteria.

For example, when recommending video camcorders, a primary criterion was recording time, the long the better. This was nonsense. Longer times were worse for retrieval, obviously. The main criterion should have been size since the smaller the unit, the more likely someone would actually carry it with them .

In addition, after testing things with presumably objective criteria, most recently dishwasher detergents, last year's top-ranked brand had fallen out of the recommended list. No commentary? How cynical do you want to get ..people used to come into my video stores clutching the CR rankings when buying a product. They rarely read the article.

I remember in the body of an article years ago about washing machines, they did state that

every machine cleaned equally well. So you were really buying features and reliability. And price.

I can't begin to thank you enough for the work you're doing.

Now at least they include consumer reviews which are often at odds with CR's ratings.
