Also, as cat owner myself, I wanted to say that I am so sorry to hear that Zara has died. They are such wonderful creatures and emotionally often very tuned into humans and they can be a fantastic source of energy and comfort. Hope Maxwell will get better and stronger soon.
So sorry about your poor kitties. I too am a cat lover who has lost much beloved companions. It hurts so much to see them suffer, and say goodbye to a loving creature who has shared so many memories. Keep the good work! So many of us are thirsty for scientists who tell the Truth. Take your time but we are here when you return.

Jeez, that sucks (. I totally understand, that's awful news. Lost my own cat, Napoleon, who helped me through my divorce ages ago, to squamous cell cancer that completely caught me by surprise. So yeah, I know the weeks- or months-long gut-punch you've been dealing with. You got a shit deal handed to you there. I think Keith Olberman put it best, talking about his own pet - "wherever you end up, I hope they let me visit you occasionally."
But stick with your friends and fam, they're there to help. And even if you feel you're being so, no, you're not being silly. Nothing unusual about going over that waterfall.

We lost an elderly Siamese cat to intestinal lymphoma just a few months ago. It's so hard to watch a beloved pet waste away. 🫂
We may be losing our elderly Border Collie to canine cognitive disorder soon. We've run out of treatments for her. She's been sundowning for months, but now her symptoms are so bad... 😔
Andrea, I am SO sorry to hear of Zara's death. My wife and I (both now retired chemistry professors at a small liberal arts college) have had cats for almost the entirety of our 32 years of marriage. So we know, FAR better than words can express, how much of a difference they can make in our lives and how large a hole is left when we lose a beloved pet (we've gone through the loss/grieving process three times). The hole in our heart that never completely closes is the price we pay for opening ourselves to the transforming love of a beloved pet. It's a price worth paying...and I'm on the verge of tears as I type this thinking of the cats who died and who we still miss.
