Welcome to the ImmunoLogic newsletter!
Who am I?
My name is Dr. Andrea Love. I have a PhD in Immunology and Microbiology. I am a biomedical scientist, science communicator, runner, amateur photographer, and catmom to 7 furbabies. I began my career in academia and made the transition to industry nearly 10 years ago, so I have experience in many facets of scientific research.
I wear [too] many hats: I work full-time in life sciences biotechnology, I co-run
with Dr. Jess Steier, I’m the Executive Director of the American Lyme Disease Foundation, and I volunteer as scientific consultant to several other organizations.Separate from those roles, I decided to launch ImmunoLogic to provide a conduit for credible fact-based information on topics that are related to immunology and microbiology.
My main goal is for people to realize that science is something to marvel at and embrace, not use as a tool to scare people. I want to alleviate unfounded fears and anxiety from predatory and fear-based messaging (yes, we will talk a lot about chemophobia), so that you have a better understanding of what’s fact and what’s fiction as it relates to your bodies, your health, and consumer products.
What is ImmunoLogic?
This newsletter will focus on science education as well as dispelling common misconceptions and outright disinformation. Here, you will find more granular discussions on topics that are often misrepresented or misunderstood:
Cancer biology, immunology, and immunotherapy
Cell and gene therapy and genetic technologies
Vaccines and infectious diseases
Autoimmunity and inflammatory diseases
The microbiome
Molecular and cell biology
Chemistry and toxicology basics
Quality of scientific evidence
And deep dives into the evidence (or lack thereof) related to common themes in the wellness industry:
Dietary supplements
At-home health tests
Pseudoscience diagnoses
Restrictive dietary patterns, ‘detoxes’, and ‘cleanses’
Organic, non-GMO, and other anti-science marketing tactics
I hope that, in this world of misinformation that is accelerated through strategic social media efforts, ImmunoLogic will enable you to feel more confident about these topics, dispel unsubstantiated claims, and allow you to make decisions that aren’t driven by fear-based emotions. Improved science literacy benefits individual and public health.

Evidence-based science presented here can be accessible and available to all, especially when too many influencers profit off selling pseudoscience.
More people have access to science that is supported by robust clinical evidence.
We collectively work toward improving science literacy, which improves public health outcomes and technological development.
We can arm the masses with the real facts behind false claims that create fear and uncertainty that circulate on social media and by media outlets.

Welcome and thanks for joining in the fight for science!
Thank you for supporting evidence-based science communication. With outbreaks of preventable diseases, refusal of evidence-based medical interventions, roadblocks to scientific progress that improve food and crop sustainability, it’s needed now more than ever.
Yours in science,
Andrea
