Thank you! Your Substacks on chemophobia and fear based information are very helpful. I went down a rabbit hole when I read, a few years back, that dark chocolate is high in metals. I just googled it and it was put out my CRs.

Thank you for this. CR also issued a report on heavy metals in chocolate/cocoa products -- as they have for the past few years, usually in the fall (pre-Halloween timing?). They analyze all types of chocolate bars & cocoa products for lead & cadmium. As someone who has seen children who have experienced lead toxicity, I can teel you that in nearly 40 years of clinical practice, I've never seen a case of lead toxicity from food, let alone chocolate/cocoa. As for cadmium, please. The primary means of cadmium toxicity is through inhalation, not food.

That said, CR gets a lot of mileage (and media coverage) from these reports, and it probably drives up CR subscriptions. Put cadmium/lead, kids, and chocolate in the same sentence and it guarantees coverage. Forget that we actually get more cadmium from foods like grains (including whole grains), leafy veggies, beans, and nuts -- foods we WANT people to eat -- than from chocolate/cocoa products, yet nothing about context from the CR report. No context, just fear-mongering. So unnecessary. IMHO
